Two Rivers is located on the shores of Lake Michigan, at the mouth of the Wisconsin River, in Manitowoc County. Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties make up the Two Rivers metropolitan statistical area. Wisconsin's 32nd largest city, Two Rivers, is well-known for its pristine stage of the Lester Public Library.

The city was named for its location at the mouth of the Two Rivers, which merge with the lake here. According to legend, a local Indian chief said, "Two Rivers, two banks of one river" when the surveyor sought to learn the rivers' names.

Two Rivers is well-known for its fishing industry. It was once one of the biggest suppliers of freshwater commercial fish in Wisconsin, and its historical fishing industry is honored with a 15-ton, 40-foot-long sturgeon sculpture. In 1989, Two Rivers has a rich maritime past, as seen in the city's Historic Washington House and the shifting shoreline of Lake Michigan.

In terms of culture, the Hamilton Wood Type Museum of Type and Printing in Two Rivers has the world's most extensive collection of wood printing type. Additionally, Two Rivers is well-known for its "ice harvest," also known as "ice cutting," which is featured in the January Ice Harvest and Winter Festival.

The Two Rivers School District enrolls 2,115 pupils in six schools as of the 2018-19 school year. There are three private schools in the city.
