East Highland Park is located at 37°34′49″N 77°26′17″W.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.3 square miles (11.1 km2), all of it land.

The Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad was constructed through the region in the late 1820s, beginning the history of East Highland Park. [3] In 1833, a post office was built in the east Highland Park area, and by the mid-1850s, a community had emerged around it. The area developed gradually throughout the 20th century, primarily between the 1950s and 1970s, with tract housing, shopping centers, and apartment complexes. [3] Despite this, Henrico County records indicate that portions of the CDP might be annexed by neighboring Richmond. [4]

As of the census[5] of 2000, for every 100 females, there were 87.8 males. The population's median age was 41.4 years. The average household size was 2.55, and the average family size was 3.07.

The racial makeup of the CDP in 2010 was 73.5% White, 21.7% Black or African American, 0.4% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinos were 3.0% of the population.

According to the 2000 census, 88.3% of residents aged 25 and older have a high school diploma or higher, 29.4% a bachelor's degree or higher, and 9.2% a graduate or professional degree.

According to the 2000 census, the median income for a household in the CDP was $44,138, and the median income for a family was $51,602. Males had a median income of $38,063 versus $26,335 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $21,404. About 4.4% of families and 6.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.3% of those under 18 and 12.1% of those 65 or older.

As of 2010, 58.5% of adults 25 and older have a bachelor's degree or higher. 55.1% of adults aged 25–64 have a bachelor's degree or higher.

Crime rates have been steadily reducing in Henrico County since 2010, with a 15% drop in crimes reported to the police. [6]

Pocahontas Parkway runs through the middle of East Highland Park. [2] Both directions of Pocahontas Parkway have two to three lanes. It connects to Interstate 95 in the east and Interstate 64 in the west. Another important east-west road is Laburnum Avenue, which has two lanes in both directions between Interstate 64 and U.S. Route 60. Key Boulevard, a minor east-west street, connects Pocahontas Parkway with Hermitage Road. Three roads provide access to Interstate 64: Nine Mile Road, which meets Interstate 64 at exit 192; Laburnam Avenue, which meets Interstate 64 at exits 191 and 192; andDowny Boulevard, which meets Interstate 64 at exit 193. Churches of a variety of denominations, as well as small businesses, are located along Azalea Avenue, which runs north-south through East Highland Park. South of Pocahontas Parkway, there are mostly single-family homes. North of Pocahontas Parkway, there are apartments, condominiums, and businesses along the north side of Pocahontas Parkway. [2]

East Highland Park has a significant Salvadoran population. Around 2000, both low-skilled and highly skilled Salvadorans settled in East Highland Park. [7] Fiesta is a grocery store catering to the community. [8] A Salvadoran restaurant is next to the Fiesta. [2]

In the 1950s, many African Americans migrated to the area, settling into the East Highland Park and surrounding neighborhoods. [3]

The Virginia Department of Corrections operates the Henrico County Correctional Unit in East Highland Park. [9]

Pocitas elementary school and Laburnum elementary school serve sections of East Highland Park, while Azalea Avenue and Highland Springs elementary schools serve other sections. All middle school students attend Highland Springs middle school. All high school students attend Highland Springs high school. [2]
