Grantsville is a city in Tooele County, Utah, United States. The population was 8,800 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City, Utah,United States.
The city was incorporated on April 29, 1894. Its name is derived from the fact that it was the location where Ulysses S. Grant passed through the area while on his way to Utah's capital city,Salt Lake City.
Sports teams
* The Grantsville High School football team, the Grantsville Cowboys, have won six state championships in football (1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, and 2017). The team is well known for its intense rivalry with Tooele High School, and the annual rivalry game, known as the "Battle of the Hill," is a significant local event. More recently, the boys' basketball team won the 3A state championship in 2017.
* Grantsville's volleyball team won the state title in 2007. The Grantsville Cowboys have also won state titles in baseball and wrestling.
* The city's beauty is enhanced by the scenic Deseret Peak Complex, located just southeast of the city.
* Grantsville has an annual Corn Fest, which is usually held in August.
* It celebrates Pioneer Day with a "Rodeo and a few other festivities. Grantsville has a swimming pool, a skate park, and several city parks, including one adjacent to the high school.
* Grantsville has fast food establishment, local restaurants, and an assistant living center.
* The city has four public schools: Grantsville Elementary, East Elementary, Grantsville Middle School, and Grantsville High School.
* Grantsville High is the largest high school in Tooele County. It has career and technical education courses, AP, honors, and concurrent enrollment courses, and several skilled trade courses such as welding.
* A controversial mascot, "Indian Joe," was retired in the 2000s. Grantsville was the last high school in Utah to retire a Native American Mascot.
* The city has several historical buildings, including a pioneer village, a train depot, and a historical museum
* The city has received national attention in the 2000s for the "Grantsville Shooting" and most recently for a teacher who fed a sick puppy to a snapping turtle in front of several students in a science class.
* The city is governed by a mayor and city council. It has its library, public swimming pool, and headquarter of the Tooele County School District.
* The city lies in the Tooele Valley, which is part of the Great Basin region of the United States.
* Grantsville's water supply is managed by the Tooele Associated Municipal Pools.
