Uvalde was founded in 1853, and the Uvalde County Courthouse was built in 1891. Together with Uvalde County, Uvalde has various attractions, including the Uvalde County Museum, which features displays on the history of the region as well as material on the locally renowned John Nance "C actus Jack" Rice and his cattle ranch, the River of Life Museum, which exhibits an outdoor sculpture garden, a botanical garden and a collection of dioramas and exhibits that tell the story of the natural and cultural history of the region, and the Uvalde Grand Opera House, an intimate 1891 opera house that still has live performances.

Bullfrog, the World'x largest frog statue, was unveiled in 2012 and stands outside the Uvalde County Courthouse.

Every year, Uvalde holds a Rodeo Festival, celebrating the town's rich ranching and cowboy history with a variety of cowboy- and western-themed events leading up to the main rodeo event.

Uvalde is a town of immigrants, a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures. Hispanics / Latinos, people of Mexican descent, make up more than 70 percent of the population.

The Hispanic Culture, particularly Mexican Culture is very much present in Uvalde. In the city and county, there are various Mexican restaurants, and several shops sell Mexican and Salvadorian food. El Charro, an eating place in Uvalde named after Charro, is one such restaurant that serves the cuisine. During Uvalde's annual Rodeo Festival, residents of Uvalde host a street festival with many stalls selling tacos, funnel cakes, handmade candies, beverages, and other Mexican-American cuisines. They also organize a Hispanic Festival to honor and celebrate a long-standing cultural icon - Las Botas - which is a dance and music spectacle.
