Chester is a city in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. With a population of 33,939 as of the 2020 census, it is located 25 miles southwest of Philadelphia. Chester's population is 73.1% Black or African American, 12.9 White, 3.79% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 10.3% from other races, 3.16% from two or more races, and Hispanic or Latino of any race were 17.7%.

Chester has a rich history dating back to 1644 when Swedish settlers arrived. Chester was one of the three places in Pennsylvania where the legislature met, the others being Philadelphia and Lancaster. It served as the county seat of Delaware County until 1850 when the court was moved to Media.
