Moore is a city in Cleveland County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 55,131 at the 2020 census. Moore is a suburb of Oklahoma City.

The city of Moore was founded in the late 1880s during the Land Run of 1889 and was named for a railroad employee interest president, Al Moore. The name was first spelled Moor, but there was already a post office in the Indiana named Moore, so the name had to be changed, leading to the adding of an "e" at the end to spell "Moore." [1] The city was incorporated in 1893. [2] It boomed into one of the fastest-growing cities in Oklahoma during the early 20th century and became a significant bedroom community for the Oklahoma City area.
According to the 2010 US Census Bureau population estimates, the racial makeup of Moore was 75.31% White, 3.167% Black or African American, 3.07% Native American, 2.89% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.44% from some other race, and 3.07% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinos of any race were estimated to be 5.2% of the population.
There were 16,426 households in Moore in 2010. The median age was 31.6 years. There were 92.3 males for every 100 females. For every 100 females, there were 99.2 males.
A tornado struck Moore on May 20, 2013. Seven schools were destroyed, and over 14,000 homes were damaged or destroyed. On May 31, officials reported that 24 people had been killed by the tornado. On June 2, officials reduced that number to 23, including seven children. 75 people were injured, including three dozen children. 4,000 people were affected. President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency, allowing Federal aid to be released to shaken Oklahomans.
The Moore Medical Center, a 41-bed hospital, serves the town. The center is affiliated with St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. It is the only hospital in Moore. The hospital sits on a 40-acre campus. Moore has two public high schools, Moore High School and Westmoore High School, and one private high school, Heritage Hall. The Moore School District has 21,661 students enrolled. The district has 33 schools and a pre-kindergarten program. Higher education is offered through a branch of Oklahoma City Community College.
