eaton,OhioEaton is a city in and the county seat of Preble County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,407 at the 2010 census. Eaton has a total area of 5.93 square miles. The city is located in the Miami Valley region of southwest Ohio.

Eaton was laid out in 1806, and named after Samuel Eaton, a local landowner. Eaton was incorporated in 1833. Preble County was formed in 1808, and Eaton was designated as its county seat.

Eaton's population increased from 2,562 in 2000 to 8,407 in 2010. The city's downtown area has been renovated, including the restoration of the old Eaton Theatre. The Eaton Theatre was built in 1930 and closed in 1980. Renovations were completed in 2003, and the theatre reopened.

Eaton has several festivals, Gearhart's Christmas in the Country, Eaton VFW Annual Fish Fry, Eaton Ole Fashioned Christmas, Eaton Jaycees Annual 4th of July Celebration, Art Affair.

Eaton has four parks: Eaton's Community Park, Somer's Park, John's Park, and the Bruns Environmental Center.

Eaton Community Pool offers swimming lessons, special events, open swimming, and memberships.

Eaton has several covered bridges, including the Eaton-Lewisburg Covered Bridge, the Eaton-Stockport Covered Bridge, and the Glandon's Covered Bridge. These are three of the four remaining covered bridges in Preble County.
