solvay,New YorkSolvay is a village in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The population was 6,584 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the Latin word for "solvay," referrig to the Solvay process, a major 19th-century industrial process for the manufacture of soda ash.

The community was originally called "Collins Park" and was renamed Solvay in 1894. Solvay was incorporated as a village in 1903.Rochester, New York'aluminum company, Alcoa, previously had a large facility in Solvay.

The village was home to, at one time, the Solvay Methodist Church, which was built in 1872.The church was closed in 2011 and was put up for sale.

From 1791-1916, E.M. Venn, a marine engine manufacturing company was located in Solvay, then known as 'Collins Park.

Solvay has a few restaurants, such as Vino N Vino, Michael's Pizza, Red Mill, and Solvay Cafe. McSweeney's Irish Pub used to be in the area but has been closed down.

In 2010, it was mentioned as the location of the upcoming film shooting of the movie Something's Wrong, Sir, to be directed by J.D. Galletta.

Events
