North Lindenhurst is located at 40°42'49" North, 73°19'25" West (40.7473, -73.3236).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2), all land.

North Lindenhurst is a community in the town of Babylon, New York. It is bordered to the north by the village of Lindenhurst, directly to the east by West Babylon, and to the south and west by the village of Amityville. Major roads that run through North Lindenhurst include New York State Route 109, New York State Route 110, and the southern parkway of the Southern State.

North Lindenhurst was a major player in Long island's hotel boom of the 1950s-60s. In 1959, developer Paul H. Rose built the first hotel in North Lindenhurst, 'Rose's Bowl Inn', on the north side of the Long Island Railroad tracks. After this, many motels and inns followed suit, including the Long Island Motel, which was the largest motel on Long Island. North Lindenhurst became a very popular tourist destination.

There are many attractions in North Lindenhurst. One of the most historical is the Lindenhurst Memorial Library. On August 28, 1890, a group of influential residents gathered to form a library association and adopted a constitution for its governance. In 1891 the library opened in the Mechanic's Hall on South Wellwood Avenue and remained there until 1905 when it was moved to a small cottage on South Broadway. In 1916, the library was moved to a better site, the corner of South Broadway and Mill Road. In 1958, the library moved again, this time to a large, old school building on East Hoffman Avenue. Finally, the library was relocated to its present site, 133 South Wellwood Avenue, in 1968. Today The Lindenhurst Memorial Library is in a new building that replaced the old one in 2008.

The Long Island Live Steamers, a nonprofit railroad preservation group, has a miniature train ride that the public can ride on the second and fourth Sunday of the month from spring through fall. They also have a historic railroad museum and railroad artifacts on display.

Long Island Live Steamers has been located in North Lindenhurst since 1967.

There's also a popular recreation center and the historic Schoolhouse Green.

It has a patch of greenery and a few benches. The original building was built as a schoolhouse in 1895 and rebuilt in 1929. It was given to the North Lindenhurst Civic Club in 1959 and is now the home of the club.

Suffolk County Community College's satellite campus is in North Lindenhurst.

On March 16, 1980, the North Lindenhurst Fire Department was formed to protect the area from fires and other related emergencies. Today, they have 125 volunteer members.
