murray,New YorkMurray, New York, is a town in Orleans County, western New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,034. History: Yates was a founder of the town. In 1807, Murray was formed from parts of the Ridgeway and Shelby towns. In 1810, the town took its current name. In 1842, the hamlet of Murray (now known simply as "Murray") was incorporated as a village. Part of the town was lost in 1853 when the town of Albion was formed.

* Population: As of the census of 2000, there were 17,346 people in the town, 6,438 households, and 4,749 families. The population density was 49.7 people per square mile (19.2/km2). There were 6,853 housing units at an average density of 19.7 per square mile (7.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.55% White, 0.84% Black or African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.71% of the population.

* Culture: Every year, Murray hosts the Erie Canal Festival. In 1825, the Erie Canal opened, passing through Murray. Locks 26 and 27 and the accompanying bridge tend to give a glimpse of the canal's history. The festival celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022, it began in 1998.
