medford,New YorkMedford is a hamlet (an unincorporated community) located in the town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, United States. At the 2010 U.S Census, the population was approximately 24,776.

Medford was first settled in the 1650s by English colonists. The name "Medford" appears on maps as far back as 1798. William Floyd, a resident of the area who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, originally called the area Mills' Neck. The first post office was established in Medford in 1806. During the 1800s, the construction of the Long Island Rail Road and a gristmill in the area helped create growth in the community. An railroad spur that connected Brookhaven to the hamlet was completed in 1885. The historic Seaman's Neck Road placed in Medford is the location of this LIRR branch.

Medford's community has grown with the development of the Long Island Expressway.

Nature exhibitions are the most important attractions in Medford. Medford is the home of the Long Island Museum of Natural History, a petting zoo, and the Holtsville Environmental Center.

The population of Medford has been expanding steadily. There have been a population increase of more than 26% between 1990 and 2000 and a population increase of almost 9% between 2000 and 2010.

The racial-ethnic composition of the community was reported as 89.83% White, 4.33% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 3.27% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.44% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.28% of the population.

Medford hosts annual summer concerts, held at the Dennis J. Stark Memorial Park. Local bands perform, and the event is a large attraction, with prices low for food.
