Rumson is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, USA. As of the 2020 United States Census, the borough's population was 7,333. Rumson was formed as a borough on January 13, 1888, from portions of Shrewsbury Township, based on the results of a referendum held on December 18, 1887. The borough was named after Rumson, a town in Scotland.
Rumson has a total area of 5.28 square miles, of which 4.07 square miles is land and 1.21 square miles is water. It is bordered to the north by Highlands, to the east by Atlantic Highlands, to the south by the Navesink River, to the southeast by Middletown Township, and to the west by Fair Haven.
Rumson is known for its beautiful architecture, beautiful gardens, and historic homes. The Rumson Historic District, which includes several homes built in the 18th and 19th centuries, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
