The Valley Park Historical Society Museum and the Log Cabin Museum are local attractions that showcase the city's past. Another significant city event is the annual Apple Butter Festival, which features apple butter-making demonstrations, live music, craft booths, food vendors, and amusement park rides. Also located in Valley Park is the 320-acre casting pond, once a fly fishing destination known as the trout fishing capital of Missouri. The city also hosts an annual fishing derby.
A unique population of Turkish people has long lived in Valley Park. Over the past few decades, an increase in Asian immigrants has been seen. While driving along old US Route 66/Chesterfield Road, within the city, one can see a large collection of Anheuser-Busch beer signs from around the globe, attached to the outside walls of H & H Wholesale, which has since closed.
A tornado passed through Valley Park on December 11, 2006. The tornado missed the city's center, but it did cause damage to buildings on its west side. A tornado also struck Valley Park on May 8, 2009.
