Columbia City is a city located in Whitley County, Indiana, United States. The population was 4,450 at the 2020 Census.

Columbia City's earliest known history dates back to 1837, when the area consisted of one general store, a tavern, and a few homes. It was platted on June 2, 1839, by Elias Rex, William H. Kelly, and Samuel H. Lacey. In 1849, a town hall was built, and three years later, the first church in Columbia City was built, the Columbia City Methodist Church. The historic courthouse in the city square was built in 1852, the oldest courthouse still in use in Indiana.

In 1889 the town's first waterworks was established on the southwest quadrant of the town square and served the city until 1974. The Whitley County Historical Society museum now occupies the former waterworks building.
