The Village' $100 million annual retail sales tax revenue comes from several shopping centers, including Oakbrook Center, a 1,100,000-square-foot outdoor mall. Oakbrook Center is situated just west of York Road (IL Route 83) and north of Interstate 88.

Oak Brook's salt plains, also called "oak savannas," were originally home to many Native American tribes, including the Potawatomi nation. Following the Treaty of Chicago in 1833, the government removed members of the tribe to farmland areas west of the Mississippi River.

The DuPage Historical Museum, a free public museum dedicated to the history of DuPage County, is in Oak Brook.

Oak Brook has 14 parks, including the 176-acre Central Park, which features walking and bicycle paths, a 13-acre lake, and the Oak Brook Golf Course. Other parks include Drake Park and the Mayslake Peabody Estate.
