Oldsmar's history began with a dramatic and historic event when a 2,000-year-old Indian shell mound was destroyed by a developer who was building the first housing subdivision in the area.

It was the beginning of a revolution that transformed the sleepy fishing village of Oldsmar into the fountain of youth it is today.

In 1977, the first Oldsmar Days was held and quickly became an annual festival to celebrate the city's founding. The first museum in the area was also built in 1977 in the historical building of the Oldsmar Bank, which was relocated from its original site. Now located on the city's waterfront, the Oldsmar Historical State Museum is a collection of artifacts that tell the story of the city's past.
