West Whittier-Los Nietos is located at (33.957218, -118.011713 According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.7 square miles (9.6 km2), over 99% of it land.

West Whittier-Los Nietos is located in the southern San Gabriel Valley, near the San Gabriel River and the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10). To the north and east is the city of Whittier, to the west is the city of Pico Rivera, and to the south and west is the city of Santa Fe Springs.

The LA County Sheriff's Department operates the Norwood Jail in West Whittier.

The 2020 United States Census reported that West Whittier-Los Nietos had a population of 27,111. The population density was 7,314.3 people per square mile (2,823.8/km2). The racial makeup of West Whittier-Los Nietos was (58.9%) White (15.9 non-Hispanic White), 2.2 African American (2.2%), 1.9% Native American, 2.9% Asian, 0.1 Pacific Islander, (57.4%) from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 75.8% of the population.

The census reported that 99.9% of the population lived in households, 0.1% lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0.1% were institutionalized.

There were 6,330 households, of which 2,453 (38.7%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 3,639 (57.9%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 905 (14.3%) had a female householder with no husband present, and 394 (6.2%) had a male householder with no wife present. There were 312 (5.0%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 36 (0.6%) same-sex married couples or partnerships. About 1,172 households (18.6%) were made up of individuals, and 451 (7.1%) had someone living alone who was 65 or older. The average household size was 4.39. There were 4,949 families (78.1% of all households); the average family size was 4.62.

The population was spread out, with 6,237 people (23.1%) under the age of 18, 2,434 people (8.9%) aged 18 to 24, 6,355 people (23.2%) aged 25 to 44, 7,345 people (27.2%) aged 45 to 64, and 2,749 people (10.1%) who were 65 or older. The median age was 37.3 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.

There were 6,644 housing units at an average density of 1,758.8 per square mile (678.7/km2), of which 3,325 (52.6%) were owner-occupied, and 3,005 (47.4%) were occupied by renters. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.4%; the rental vacancy rate was 4.6%. 14,374 people (53.3% of the population) lived in owner-occupied housing units and 11,597 people (42.4%) lived in rental housing units.

According to the 2020 American Community Survey, the median household income in West Whittier-Los Nietos was $61,759. The per capita income was $16,454. 13.8% of the population lived in poverty.
