Ramona was established in 1883 and was originally known as the "Spanish Village" and was founded by Milton Santee. The town is known for its strong agricultural heritage and annual events such as the Ramona Rodeo and the Ramona Country fair. Ramona is located at an elevation of 1,440 feet (439 m) above mean sea level (AMSL) and is surrounded by rolling hills covered in chaparral and wildflowers. Several small streams flow through Ramona and the Santa Maria Creek, which runs along the east edge of town, is the primary source of water in the area.

The median age in the CDP was 39 years and the median home value was $413,100 with the mean household income being $74,145. 85.2% of the population have a high school diploma or higher and 16.5% have a bachelor's degree or higher.
