Newman is a city in Stanislaus County, California, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,190.
Newman is located in the San Joaquin Valley, 25 miles (40 km) south-southeast of Modesto, at an elevation of 170 feet (52 m).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.15 square miles (8.15 km2), all of it land.
Newman has a Mediterranean climate (Köppen Csa) with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
The 2010 United States Census reported that Newman had a population of 10,478. The population density was 3,307.7 inhabitants per square mile (1,277.1/km2). The racial makeup of Newman was 7,522 (71.8%) White, 148 (1.4%) African American, 197 (1.9%) Native American, 188 (1.8%) Asian, 10 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 3,277 (31.3%) from other races, and 535 (5.1%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5,139 persons (49.1%).
The Census reported that 10,358 people (98.8% of the population) lived in households, 39 (0.4%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 81 (0.8%) were institutionalized.
There were 3,449 households, out of which 1,349 (39.2%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 1,864 (54.6%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 470 (13.6%) had a female householder with no husband present, 189 (5.5%) had a male householder with no wife present. There were 177 (5.1%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 16 (0.5%) same-sex married couples or partnerships. 763 households (22.2%) were made up of individuals, and 332 (9.6%) had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01. There were 2,459 families (71.3% of all households); the average family size was 3.49.
The population was spread out, with 3,071 people (29.3%) under the age of 18, 974 people (9.3%) aged 18 to 24, 2,400 people (23.0%) aged 25 to 44, 3,067 people (29.2%) aged 45 to 64, and 1,956 people (18.9%) who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33.6 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males.

There were 2,458 housing units at an average density of 830.9 per square mile (320.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 65.27% White, 0.44% Black or African American, 1.53% Native American, 0.87% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 27.55% from other races, and 5.24% from two or more races. 48.53% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,313 households, out of which 43.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% were non-families. 19.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size was 3.51.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 32.3% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.0 males.
