Livingston is a city in Merced County, California, in the United State. The population was 13,676 at the 2020 census. Livingston's total population makes it California's 416th biggest city. According to the 2020 United States Census, the population of California was approximately 39.5 million.
As of the 2000 census, there were 10,000 people, 2,515 households, and 2,054 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,431.8 people per square mile (1,326.2/km²). There were 2,622 housing units at an average density of 1,093.4 per square mile (421.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 43% White, 1% Black or African American, 1% Native American, 8% Asian, and 0% Pacific Islander. People of other races made up 42%, and those of two or more races made up 4%. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 76% of the population.
According to the 2000 census data, there were 2,515 households, out of which 40% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64% were married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22% were non-families. 16% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. The average household size was 3.78 people.
On the other hand, the average family size was 4.17. The median age was 30 years, with 30% of the population under the age of 18, 10% between 18 and 24, 26% between 25 and 44, 20% between 45 and 64, and 14% who were 65 years old or older. Livingston was founded in 1879 and incorporated in 1886. The town was promoted by the railroad, which gave land to anyone who would build a house. The Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway run east-west through the town, and a railroad park has been built to the south. Livingston's first post office opened in 1873. The name honors John A. Livingston, who was instrumental in bringing the railroad to the town. The city's Historical complexity can be found at the Livingston Historical Museum, located inside the unique historic Southern Pacific Railroad Depot building. The Livingston Depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
