In Northern California's Bay Area, in the county of Solano, is where you'll find the city of Fairfield, which is situated roughly halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento. There are many things to see and do in Fairfield, which has a population of slightly over 110,000.
A Fairfield staple, the Fairfield-Suisun Visual Arts Association hosts a biannual Art Show and Sale. Local schools and community centers host performances by the Fairfield-Suisun Community Theatre. The Downtown Fairfield Alliance hosts a weekly summer concert series, a holiday parade, and a classic car show. The Solano County Fairgrounds hosts the annual Solano County Fair.
There are several locations in Fairfield to find excellent food. In the historic downtown district, there are several eateries and cafes, and the famous In-N-Out Burger was founded there. There are a variety of international cuisines available in the city, such as Mexican, Italian, and Chinese. The Flat Iron Grill, a preferred location for locals, is seen above.
Fairfield has a strong sense of community and culture. Most of the city's historic structures, like the Fairfield Historical Society Museum, may be found along Main Street in the historic downtown. The city is home to a number of parks and public spaces, including the Fairfield Linear Park, a 4-mile trail that connects 10 neighborhood parks. The Matt Garcia Learning Center and the Fairfield-Suisun Public Library are further educational facilities.
Fairfield once had a significant Native American population, and the 1840s saw the establishment of a Mexican land grant in the region. The city's future development was greatly influenced by the construction of a railroad through the region in 1868. The city didn't incorporate until 1903, though, when it started to grow rapidly. Fairfield is home to Travis Air Force Base since its founding in 1942.
