Danville is a prosperous suburban town located in the San Ramon Valley of Contra Costa County, California, United States. It'z population was 44,133 at the 2020 census. Danville hosts a variety of community events throughout the year, including a weekly farmers' market, seasonal festivals, and holiday celebrations.

Heart of the town is the historic downtown district, filled with shops, restaurants, and cultural sites. The town's population and business community have expanded steadily over the years. Danville's 2018 census population of 42,353 represented a 26% increase from the 2000 census.

The Iron Horse Trail, a popular pathway for hikers, runners, and bicyclists, passes through Danville. Through the town center, there are several parks and community areas.

Danville also boasts a strong sports program, with a variety of youth and adult leagues, and hosts several annual athletic events.

Danville is a popular location for tourists, with various tourist attractions such as the Monte Vista High School, San Ramon Valley High School, and the Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site. The O'Neill Site, dedicated to the life and works of the famous playwright, features tours of the O'Neill family home, Foothill Road, and a visitors' center. The museum includes exhibits about O'Neill's life, plays, and family, as well as his Tao House, where he lived the last 11 years of his life and wrote some of his most famous works, including, Long Day's Journey into Night and The Iceman Cometh. Danville's historic downtown, lined with shady trees and charming sidewalk cafes, is also home to a range of speciality boutiques, antique stores, and fine restaurants.

Some of the historic sites in Danville include the Grange, Danville Hotel, and the old train depot. The Grange was built in 1874 and is among the older structures in the Bay Area that is still standing. San Francisco investors-connected to the railroad"set up" the 21-room hotel across from the Southern Pacific Railroad depot.

One of the most important landmarks in Danville history is the Danville Hotel (also known as the Danville Town Hotel). In 1874, George and Mary Ralston opened the original structure as a lodging facility for passengers from the nearby train depot. It wasn't until 1891 that the structure was improved and expanded from 16 rooms to 21 (28 rooms according to some sources). The original site was then known as Ralston's Danville Hotel when Southern Pacific Railroad employees relocated the hotel 200 feet south to its current site. President Ulysses S. Grant and composer John Philip Sousa are among the notables that have stayed there.
