Apple Valley is a town in San Bernardino County, California, USA, with a population of 72,177 as of the 2020 census. Located in the Victor Valley area of the Mojave Desert, 13 miles east of the city of Victorville, the town got its name because of its location in the Apple Valley and because of the apple farms originally present in the area. Apple Valley was incorporated as a town on November 14, 1947.
The Lewis simplified apple orchard in Apple Valley began in 1920 with a leased plot planted with 160 apple trees. Many apple ranches were begun in the early 1920s, and because of water (from underground aquifers and artesian wells), extra land had been planted with apples by the 1930s. The apple orchards in Apple Valley were flourishing for decades until the 1970s. Then orchards gave way to houses.

One of the most well-known annual events in Apple Valley is the Apple Valley Freedom Festival, previously known as the Apple Valley Fourth of July Celebration. The event is held in Apple Valley's Civic Center Park and features live music, children's activities, vendors, and a fireworks show that night.

Apple Valley offers a warm desert climate, with very hot summers and chilly winters. Summer high temperatures are in the mid to upper 90s, and winter highs in mid-50, with lows dipping below freezing. The town experiences virtually no rainfall during the summer months, with most rainfall occurring during the winter months.

The racial composition of Apple Valley was 54,643 (71.4%) White (44.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino), 12,925 (16.8%) Black or African American, 1,214 (1.6%) Native American or Alaska Native, 4,145 (5.4%) Asian, 284 (0.4%) Pacific Islander, and 3,714 (4.8%) from other races.
Apple Valley was previously home to several Native American tribes, including the Mojave and Serrano peoples. The explorer Francisco Garcés arrived in 1774 and thus began European influence. The village developed within the Apple Valley Inn, established by a wealthy Los Angeles businessman from Bassett, California. T.E. Bates had purchased land in the late 19th century, which was then used for ranching. Later, an electric trolley was built in 1913, connecting it with neighboring Barstow.
